THE FRAME LINES CREW...

Sarah Nolan - Director Frame Lines

SARAH NOLAN

FOUNDER &
CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Sarah is the founder of Frame Lines, and Creative and Managing Director. Sarah founded Frame Lines in September 2007 when she discovered that there was a need for a magazine which artists didn't have to compete for exposure, and that could be free. A magazine which would form a non profit organization, so that it could support and showcase artists from around the world - and then with the sponsorship raised give back to those less fortunate - a world of sharing and celebrating diversity.

Sarah resides in Melbourne, and has background in Marketing Management and Graphic Design. Sarah is responsible for the creative direction of each issue, liaises with contributors, artists and writers, illustrators, photographers and designers from all over the world, constructs the Frame Lines magazine, manages and designs the web site and generally does whatever is needed to keep the business running. In her spare time, when and if she has any Sarah is completing her Masters in Graphic Design, and can be found most weekends surfing. Sarah is driven from the energy of life, the randomness, coincidences, people and love that come into her life from family and friends. She is probably best known for seeing 11:11, and her love for the ocean.

SIMON CHEN
RESIDENT WRITER

Simon Chen was born in Israel and after spending his primary years in Australia returned to the Middle East where he studied cinematography and productions. Simon discovered that his passion for being in front of the camera was just as high as being behind it. During work on a summer camp in the U.S.A, he found himself on a 20 hour bus ride across the continent where he concluded what it was that he wanted to do with his life - writing and acting.

Simon left Israel in 2007 making his way back to Australia where he studied drama at the National Theatre Company in St. Kilda and Professional Writing at NMIT in Greensborough. He is currently working on the Channel 31 TV show, “The Schtick,” where he writes and performs skits.
In his spare time he cooks up ideas for movies, books, articles, documentaries and plays guitar. Simon has joined the Frame Lines team on an exciting project called “Framed” (due very soon) where he will be conducting and filming artists, interviews, events and just keeping it real as he hits the streets and uncovers what is creative in our world.

NICK KIND
WHAT WE SEE - FL PHOTOGRAPHER

Nick Kind is the Frame Lines photographer and is responsible for those amazing images you see in the Frame Lines "what we see section" of frame Lines. Nick Joined Frame Lines in September 2008, and as well as being a guru in photography he is also the Frame Lines web guru.

"As a photographer, I believe in the power of the image as a form of communication; a visual expression of that which words cannot articulate. With a Graphic Design background, I discovered a passion for the photographic image through an exploration of the creative post-production process. This led me to experiment with different ways of creating images using the camera itself as a tool. I have found that a merging of both means of image creation is the only way to realize my photographic visions. Experimentation is the inspiration for my work. I have learned to hone in on an idea and explore its variations, developing a themed collection of images. These studies invite the viewer to draw their own narrative from both the individual photographs and the body of work as one entity. During 2005/2006 I developed and taught a short course called "Digital Photography & Image Processing" at Leicester University, UK. This experience encouraged me to look within my working processes, essentially fine-tuning my skills and providing an excellent platform to share and develop these skills with other artists.Nick is based in Melbourne Australia, and we are delighted to have him as a member of the Frame Lines team.

Lorraine Berry

LORRAINE BERRY

WRITER and LITERATURE REVIEWER

Lorraine Berry is the Frames Lines literary expert and joined the team in March 2008. She was born in England, emigrated to the United States as a tot, and traveled extensively with her parents before they settled in the Seattle area. She attended the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in “Comparative History of Ideas” and a Master’s in History, before she and her then husband struck out for the East coast for her to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

Lorraine received a second Master’s in history there, but mid-way through her dissertation on Franciscan Observant preaching and witch trials in Quattrocen to Italy, decided it would be a good idea to do something else. That something else was to write. For three years she wrote sports articles for athletic magazines before finding a job as the Project Director for a student-written, student-designed magazine at SUNY Scotland called NeoVox. There she’s stayed, although during that time she has written one novel, which sits in a drawer, and is finishing up a memoir, which she hopes will be published. Lorraine conducts the amazing literary review you see in each edition of the Frame Lines magazine! Oh, and if the weather is half-way decent, you can find her on a trail somewhere, hiking and looking for the goddess.
